Special rules regarding travel

Below you can read which rules and recommendations you should follow when traveling to/from/in Greenland. Be aware that these can change from day to day.

Due to the authorities' new announcements, all travelers to Greenland in January will receive a new itinerary. Some travelers will find that the travel date is brought forward, and therefore everyone is encouraged to check the submitted itinerary.

Air Greenland is cooperating with the Corona Secretariat at high pressure to send out all new travel plans as soon as possible. Travelers will receive the itinerary automatically and please do not contact themselves.

All travelers on the 8th and 12th of January are being contacted by telephone.

It is possible to check your trip via the booking number on the front page of airgreenland.gl under 'My ticket' and see the status of the departure date. The booking number will be the same as at the time of purchase and everyone who is on the same booking number will be moved together.

Please note that the itinerary is sent to the email or mobile number used when purchasing the trip. Also remember to check the spam filter on the email. If the trip was purchased through a travel agency, the agency must be contacted.

It is NOT possible to get a different travel date in January than the one offered on the new itinerary. If you want to get your trip refunded, you can contact Air Greenland via the contact form at the top of this page.

Check-in at Kastrup Airport & negative Coronatest
All travelers must still show a SUMUT receipt and negative Covid-19 test result at check-in in Kastrup. Also remember to bring a mask for the entire trip. Also read all rules for entry here.

All travelers who have not already booked time for a Coronatest, must book through the national hospital's test procedure, which is described here.

Everyone who has a return trip to Greenland in February will automatically get a refund for their trip. This also applies to passengers departuring in February and returning in March.

Depending on the payment card, it can take up to 6 weeks before the money is in the cardholder's account. Be aware that the money can go in several rounds over several days.

If the ticket was purchased via a travel agent, please contact the travel agent for a refund or change of ticket.

All sales via the website and travel agencies of tickets for entry into Greenland will be closed in January and February, and please refer to the Corona Secretariat if you want to buy a new ticket.

The authorities have taken over the flights to Greenland, which is thus moving to emergency preparedness. This means that the authorities (Corona Secretariat) will visit all travelers in February. The visit takes place through Sullissivik.gl, which will have a form available from 15 January. The link will be available on nun.gl from this date.

All travel applications are assessed on the basis of a principle of necessity, which will be described as soon as possible and ensure that all socially critical functions can be maintained.

Travelers on the route between Copenhagen and Kangerlussuaq can continue until and including 31 January 2020 free of charge travel dates for a comparable departure on the same route. It will also be possible for all passengers with an departure date between 2 December 2020 and 17 January 2021 on the route between Denmark and Greenland to have their journey refunded.

After February 28th  normal fare rules apply for all tickets. Read more about the ticket conditions here. This also apply if you choose to change your ticket in January for another departure in 2021.

If you want to change your Atlantic ticket, you can do so on 'My ticket' on the front page of Air Greenland or by filling out the form, which you will find at the top of this page.

Takuss tickets

The Takuss ticket can be changed to the same type of ticket and the new travel date can be no later than November 30, 2021. You can not change your ticket to the following dates:

  • January 1, 2021 - January 31, 2021
  • February 1, 2021 - February 28, 2021
  • March 22, 2021 - April 11, 2021
  • June 21, 2021 - August 15, 2021

Standard and Premium tickets

Standard and Premium tickets can be changed to the same type of ticket and the new travel date can be no later than November 30th 2021.

You can not change your ticket to the following dates:

  • January 1, 2021 - January 31, 2021
  • February 1, 2021 - February 28, 2021

You must still have a negative Covid-19 test and a receipt on the completed SUMUT form before you can travel to Greenland. Read more about entering Greenland at www.nun.gl or see graphics at the top of this page.

If you have passed a negative Covid-19 test before departure and filled in the SUMUT form, you can travel to the following cities, after which you must go to quarantine:

- Aasiaat
- Ilulissat
- Kangerlussuaq
- Maniitsoq
- Nuuk
- Narsaq
- Narsarsuaq
- Paamiut
- Qasigiannguit
- Qaqortoq
- Qeqertarsuaq
- Sisimiut

Purchase of ticket
Travelers to destinations where re-testing is required must stay in a city with a health center before continuing travel. Therefore, it is now no longer possible to buy a continuous ticket on airgreenland.gl between Copenhagen and the destinations where re-testing is required.

If you want to buy a ticket from Copenhagen to a destination where re-testing is required, you must buy two separate tickets. Remember that you must be able to present a new negative Covid-19 test before your further journey.

From 30 September 2020, all travelers are required to wear their own mask or visor which covers both nose and mouth throughout the journey. Children under 12 are exempt

The mouthpiece can be removed when eating. It is recommended to put on a new unused mouthpiece after the meal.

Travelers from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq will check-in at Air Greenland's check-in desk. It will temporarily not be possible to check-in online or at the airport self-service kiosks.

When checking in at Copenhagen Airport, be aware of the authorities' requirements when traveling to Greenland. Read more at the National Medical Board's website www.nun.gl

In order for us to get you through check-in in Copenhagen as soon as possible, please have the following documents ready at check-in:

  • Legitimation
  • Receipt for filled out SUMUT form
  • Receipt for a negative Covid-19 test that is max 72 hours old

We want to ask our customers to be aware that the situation with Covid-19 may change from day to day. If the authorities extend the ban on flights across the Atlantic and thus affect the customer's travel date, the customer will be refunded all his money.

You can follow this website, which will always be updated as the authorities announce it, or follow the announcements on the website of the National Medical Board website www.nun.gl.

Hygiene and comfort

First and foremost, always follow the instructions of the Police in Greenland and the Greenlandic National Board of Health and keep yourself informed. You can do that from the National Board of Health's recommendations and information about Covid-19.

Due to the Covid-19 virus, Air Greenland is taking a variety of measures. We are following every development closely, and the safety and well-being of our passengers is our main concern. We are in close contact with the National Board of Health and follow their instructions at all times. We have reviewed our processes and contingency plans and provided additional equipment as a precaution, such as gloves for personnel and masks, as well as additional disinfectants for our aircraft.

In addition, we have extended cleaning after each flight and at our check-in counter we have set up extra handshakes. We remind all our guests to keep a good distance when traveling at the airport and follow the authorities' recommendations.

We recommend all passengers to maintain good hand hygiene and preferably travel with hand sanitizer. You can carry up to 100 ml of hand sanitizer in your hand luggage. 

If you feel unwell or ill while travelling, please contact our cabin crew or station staff if it is in transit - they are trained to take care of you.

Entertainment onborad:

To minimize the risk of infection spread. All newspapers onboard Air Greenlands flights have been removed. For digital newspapers, become a member of Air Greenlands Club Timmisa for free her

Serving food onboard:

A box of rye bread snacks, cake, butter, bun, cutlery set and cold side dish as well as half a liter of water is served in economy class, on board the Atlantic flight.

At Premium class, cold dish with salmon, cheese, warm buns and a little for the sweet tooth as well as a selection of sodas and water is served.

You must contact the cabin crew or station staff who will inform you what to do.

We ask our passengers to be aware of seat allocation on all our domestic routes with Dash-8.
The passenger's seat number will appear on the boarding pass. If you are unsure which seat you have been assigned, feel free to ask the cabin crew.
The seat allocation ensures that families and other groups can sit together on our domestic routes. At the same time, it will streamline the work rhythm of Air Greenland's staff and thus reduce the waiting time for our passengers. The initiative has been in process since the turn of the year, but has been established per year. March 12, 2020, following the recommendation of the Greenlandic Authorities.

In general, Air Greenland follows the recommendations and restrictions issued by the Greenland authorities. The Greenland authorities are: The Police in Greenland and the National Medical Bureau.

For the Atlantic airplane, the Danish authorities' orders and restrictions apply, therefore, for example, the mask command applies on board the Atlantic airplane.
